I’m Jessica Joy, a mixed media artist in southern Alabama (Joy is a middle name I share with my aunt and daughter).

I first started paper collage in 2017, cutting up books my kids read to pieces but I couldn’t bear to toss. My practice as evolved over the years but the intention is the same - using what I find around me. All my work is created with secondhand materials I’ve sourced from thrift stores, estate sales, friends and neighbors. There is really something wonderful about making connections between various materials and bringing them together in a cohesive piece. I’m always interested in how color, pattern and texture interact together.

When I’m not in my (home) studio, I am working at a local preschool and raising four kids with my husband in my hometown of Mobile, Alabama.
