I’m Jessica Croft, a mixed media artist in southern Alabama (Joy is a middle name I share with my aunt and daughter).

At the heart of my work is the intention of resourcefulness - using what already exists in the world to create meaningful, interesting new work. All the paper and textiles in my work come from my local thrift stores, estate sales or from friends and family.

I first started paper collage in 2017, cutting up books my kids read to pieces but I couldn’t bear to toss. My practice as evolved over the years but the intention is the same - using what I find around me. There is really something wonderful about making connections between various materials and bringing them together in a cohesive piece. I’m always interested in how color, pattern and texture interact together.

When I’m not in my (home) studio, I am working at a local preschool and raising four kids with my husband. We live in my hometown of Mobile, Alabama.
